Scott Summers Injured

Multitime national GNCC and Hare Scrambles champ Scott Summers will miss several rounds of the GNCC series after a horrendous crash on his home practice track left him hurting. Summers came up short on a jump reputed to be over 100 feet long, then was hit by the bike in the resulting crash. He was airlifted to the hospital and underwent surgery to repair four breaks to his femur. The ball in the hip of the same leg is cracked, but doctors say it will heal on its own. Summers is in fantastic physical condition, so he expects to return to competition in eight to 12 weeks.

Rich's Comments: It is a shame that one of my heroes and one of the best ambassadors for the off-road sport and up and coming riders has to practice supercross to be competitive at the GNCC's. Again, a top rider, national champ, is seriously injured because of a mistake on a jump. A dealer commented today that the real problem with our sport nowadays is that the poor farm kid that saves his money buys a quad or a bike when he is 16, goes to a track and gets seriously injured on a jump because he has no jumping skills. He also noted that at least the kid who had come up through the mini ranks, learned some jumping skills but he would probably get hurt also because he was jumping the same big jumps that the bigger bikes were doing.
